Human rights

At Siegfried, we are deeply committed to upholding the highest ethical standards across our global supply chain.

Prevention and remediation

Guided by our Supplier Integrity Commitment and our Supplier Sustainability Risk Assessment Framework, all 13 Siegfried sites actively work to prevent and remediate any instances of child labor, forced labor, and other labor rights violations. To ensure this, a human rights self-assessment risk questionnaire is distributed and filled out. This ensures that our approach is rooted in transparency, accountability, and collaboration with suppliers to ensure that our operations reflect the principles of human dignity, respect, and fairness.

Remediation actions for identified violations

Immediate action plan

Siegfried collaborates with suppliers to implement an immediate action plan, which includes:

  • Immediate stop of exploitative practices: Immediate stop of the identified violations.
  • Support for affected individuals: Additional support mechanisms for affected individuals to mitigate the impact of human rights violations.

Supplier responsibilities

Should potential instances of child labor be identified, suppliers must take the following actions:

  • Medical check for child labor cases: The supplier is responsible for arranging a specialized health check for any child identified in a labor situation, to evaluate any potential impact on their well-being. Should any health concerns be identified, the supplier is expected to cover all related costs, including medical care and necessary living expenses.
  • Family contact and safe return: The supplier should promptly reach out to the child’s family and ensure the child is returned home in a safe and secure manner. All transportation-related expenses are to be borne by the supplier.
  • Wage continuation: To help safeguard the child’s livelihood, the supplier is expected to continue wage payments until the child reaches the minimum legal working age.
  • Educational support: The supplier must support the child’s access to compulsory education. This includes providing Siegfried with the name and address of the school the child is attending and offering financial support for educational expenses if required.

Should potential instances of worker safety measures be identified, suppliers must take the following actions:

  • Health & safety audit: Conduct an immediate third-party occupational health and safety audit to identify hazards and compliance gaps.
  • Hazard elimination: Rectify all identified hazards without delay. This includes repairing unsafe machinery, improving ventilation, and ensuring fire safety compliance.
  • Protective equipment provision: Distribute appropriate and certified PPE to all workers based on job roles.
  • Worker training: Provide mandatory health and safety training for all employees.
  • Medical care and compensation: Supplier to fully cover any medical expenses for injuries or illnesses caused by unsafe conditions and provide appropriate compensation for any long-term effects.

Root cause analysis

Where applicable, conduct a thorough investigation to identify the root causes of these violations, ensuring the underlying issues are addressed effectively. This may involve revising supplier management practices or providing targeted training.

Corrective action and monitoring

Siegfried requires suppliers to implement corrective measures to prevent recurrence of labor rights violations. Progress is closely monitored through follow-up audits, site visits, and regular reporting.

Termination of non-compliant suppliers

In cases where a supplier is unwilling or unable to remediate identified violations, Siegfried reserves the right to terminate the business relationship to uphold our commitment to ethical practices.

Transparency and accountability

Siegfried is committed to maintaining transparency in its efforts to uphold labor rights. We report on our progress and challenges through:

Embedding these measures into our operations, Siegfried reaffirms its dedication to responsible sourcing and sustainable business practices, creating a supply chain that respects and protects human and environmental rights at every level.
