Dr. Wolfgang Wienand (1972) studied chemistry at the Friedrich-Wilhelms University in Bonn and was awarded a Ph.D. degree in organic and bio-organic chemistry from the University of Cologne, both Germany. During his university and doctoral studies he received a scholarship of the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes. In addition, he holds an Executive Master’s Degree in International Finance from HEC École de Hautes Études Commerciales in Paris, France.
Prior to joining Siegfried, Wolfgang Wienand held senior management positions at Evonik Industries AG (formerly Degussa AG) with a focus on fine chemicals and custom manufacturing for the pharmaceutical industry. In his final role he was responsible for Strategy and Business Development for the photovoltaic and semiconductor industry.
During his time at university, Wolfgang Wienand was one of the world’s most successful foil fencers. He was a member of the German national team and participated in the Olympic Games in Atlanta 1996 (4th rank) and Sydney 2000 (6th rank). In 1997, he was number one on the world ranking list as well as winner of the World Cup series. Further outstanding performances include winning a bronze medal in the 1999 World Championships in Seoul, winning the 1998 European Championships in Plovdiv and the 1989 Youth World Championships in Lisbon.
Wolfgang Wienand joined Siegfried with effect from 1 August 2010 as Chief Scientific Officer with responsibility for Global Research and Development and held this position as a member of the Executive Committee until end of August 2012. He was appointed Chief Strategy Officer with responsibility for Strategy, Mergers & Acquisitions, Legal & IP Management and Regulatory Affairs with effect from 1 December 2011. In addition, starting 1 May 2017, he again managed the Siegfried Group’s Global Research and Development activities.
With responsibility for the successful acquisitions as part of Siegfried`s TRANSFORM strategy, Wolfgang Wienand made a decisive contribution to Siegfried`s positive development in recent years. As the responsible for post-merger integration of the new corporate units as well as global Head of Research and Development he played an important role in Siegfried`s operational activities. Together with the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee he developed the current EVOLVE corporate strategy. On the basis of this strategy, Wolfgang Wienand will lead the company into the future as Chief Executive Officer.
