In 2008, Siegfried introduced a Code of Conduct policy that specifies our most important policies, such as the role of the employee in ensuring the success of the company, how to deal with conflicts of interest, honesty and trust, bribery and corruption. The Code was distributed to every employee and is part of the introductory program for new employees and valid for all Siegfried sites.
The Siegfried Group takes an integrated approach to corporate governance and is committed to mutual trust and clarity toward shareholders, employees, journalists and financial analysts. Our experience with the SWX Swiss Exchange guidelines has shown the importance of sustainable and long-term relationships with all shareholders and stakeholders, and a sensible application of corporate governance instruments. Corporate governance at Siegfried is based on the statutes of Siegfried Holding AG, the rules of procedure of the Siegfried Group, and the structure of the Group. The corporate governance report (part of the annual report) describes the principles of management and control of the Siegfried Group. Corporate gover- nance in the Siegfried Group mainly follows the “Swiss Code of Best Practice” of March 2002. It is regularly reviewed and revised by the Board of Directors, the ultimate institution respon- sible for the content and implementation of the corporate governance guidelines.
The Board of Directors and executive management are the highest institutions responsible for the implementation and maintenance of all sustainability policies and guidelines. The Compliance Committee, along with the Chief Compliance Officer, is responsible for the implementation of compliance and quality standards, and for the area of Safety, Health and Environment. The Secretary to the Board of Directors supervises the Code of Conduct. Sustainability is based on the guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). The Sustainability Report is part of the Annual Report.
For Siegfried, our most important stakeholders are our customers, employees, shareholders, investors, as well as public authorities and regulators. Further stakeholders are the general public and our suppliers. They are all equally important, which is why an open and honest information policy is very important to Siegfried.
Siegfried serves the Life Science industry worldwide. This industry includes international chemical and pharmaceutical companies that outsource their development and production projects, or producers of finished products that have their active ingredients produced by Siegfried.
Siegfried introduced a comprehensive procedure for all aspects of chemical process development to ensure efficient and safe chemical processes, key elements of process development. Our internal safety lab has well-trained specialists and the newest measurement instruments for physical and thermal substance testing. Flammability, danger of explosion, and performance during daily use and in case of accident are tested and evaluated. The chemical procedures undergo a process risk analysis during process development and production launch. A team of Development, Production and SHE experts tests and evaluates safety and environ- mental parameters and issues a process safety report.
As part of the precautionary measures, the process systems and the chemical substances they handle undergo a comprehensive risk analysis. The results are summarized in a report and reviewed by the regulatory authorities during their annual inspection.
Over half of the employees at our Malta facility were trained in the use of portable fire extinguishers in 2010.
Siegfried maintains an internal emergency team in Zofingen to respond to explosions, fires or chemical incidents. The Zofingen HAZMAT (hazardous materials) and firefighting organization consists of over 100 employees from Siegfried and Swissprinters (an adjacent company), ensuring the safety of far more than 1,000 jobs in both facilities. As mandated by the canton, this new organization is also the official HAZMAT response team for incidents outside our facility.
